I apologize in advance, this is gonna be long and filled with grammar mistakes probably. Some background, I (20 ftm) work in a meat department in a family owned store. I have worked in this departement for 6ish months, but I've worked in the actual store for almost a year now. I started out as a grinder, which is the 12-8 shift. I hate late shifts, I'm more of a morning shift person. 9-5 person walked out during a shift and left clean up for the closing manager. This is after the previous 9-5 person left after he put his 2 weeks in. For about 3 weeks, it's just me and the opener. I was getting out 2 hours late on a regular basis because no one would stop a d help when I would ask. “Why isn't sausage getting done? Why are you getting out so late? The person…

Lying on Lab resume
I have no luck getting a job without experience but then because I have no experience I cannot get any experience. A lot of my friends have lied successfully on their resumes but they are in different fields of work than I am. I was wondering if anyone had ever lied about their experience working in a lab. Not like research but just basic lab tech
Work from home (WFH) query
Hi all, Long time lurker, first time writer. Not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask but I have recently been approached by my current employer regarding work from home coming to an end in most financial services and now everyone should be coming back. Context: I've been working in the North (UK) for this large firm. I've been with them throughout CV19 lockdowns and really enjoy working there handling insurance claims. My partner got an opportunity to work down South closer to London and given I was working remotely already, we decided (with my company's blessing) to move down South. There were ideas floating about regarding having different profiles such as full remote workers, full office workers ect but that seems to now have been walked back when the CEO decided we would adopt 50% office work. It's a bit of a shit show because none of…
More like the Incompetence 500
So I have been thinking a lot lately about how many established companies that may even be considered institutions of corporate America are just names on the outside and nothing more. On the inside, they are plagued by incompetence, inefficiency and overall chaos. I really want to understand how these companies make it on the fortune 500, get awards and distinctions and then once you get there you realize the place is an utter disaster even though it may be a company that is a household name (Big Pharma company, large retailer etc.) or have record profits. How did they achieve this when there is so much incompetence on the inside? This was just a shower thought but I got more curious since I recently accepted an offer at a Fortune 50 company and was scheduled to start today. As the day got closer I didn't receive any first day…
Hi everyone, I had a job a few years back that was awful and ended on bad terms. I just got a new job offer and their background check seems extensive to the point they may contact them. I am concerned if they do contact them something might be said about me and I may lose the offer. Have you guys just lied about phone numbers for people or what?
I don't have one right now that fits my job. The previous one given to me included something like “description may change as needs change”. It was understandable, as my position was not quite like the previous people that did this kind of work (manufacturing support engineer). Now I don't feel it works anymore because, as many of you will probably agree, that language was meant to make this position highly flexible. I have worked on many different types of projects, and everything that's new that no one else has time for get dumped in my lap because I “can take the tough ones and figure it out”. I feel like its a backhanded compliment.
Denied another job offer today.
I really thought this would be the one today. I’ve denied probably 6 jobs now for the lack of ability for them to pay me adequately. I applied for a craft store. I thought it would be something I would really enjoy. I waited for the phone call. Only for me to get the offer and it was $8.5 an hour. And I just can’t accept that. And it really fucking sucks. For 100 hours of my time I would earn less than $850. I’m not doing that. So the hunt continuities. 🙁
Right now my resume is incredibly honest, from something easily verifiable like my degree and GPA down to unverifiable stuff like what I did exactly on my previous jobs. There are some ambiguous and exaggerated wording (like “coordinated”, “succeeded in” etc) It’s not a “bad” resume by any means, but it’s not particularly glistening. I’m noticing that during interviews I haven’t had anyone try to verify anything on my resume, but getting interviews in the first place is what is challenging. Should I just start lying on my resume? Nothing as big as making stuff out of thin air, but I’m thinking I could highlight some aspects of what I did disproportionately and give myself better sounding job titles when there are no official titles given. Is this common or is it a bit too far?
