It was true that I didn’t have much ambition, but there ought to be a place for people without ambition, I mean a better place than the one usually reserved. How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so? Company-wide email from HR
I know this seems super small, and there are a ton of bigger and more immediate problems, but today my employer sent a company-wide email (to about 10k people) announcing the new “human capital management platform” that they want us to use. Maybe it’s just me, but I find the words “human capital” to be disgusting. We are human beings, not a building or printer or whatever. I talked to someone I know in HR and brought it up, and she argued with me about it! “But that’s what it is! You can’t get mad for someone calling something what it is!” eyeroll It just put me in a shit mood on a Monday morning. Thanks for listening to my rant.
We won’t be able to do anything if half the country is defending the corporations that exploit them. I’ve been trying to chip away at my dad and uncle, telling them about the huge rise in homeless veterans. I think they’re slowly starting to get it.
I am considering opening a fast casual food franchise, and I am thinking about ways to stand out as an employer to attract the best employees, and looking for feedback. Profit-sharing – something along the lines of standard hourly rates ($12-15 in my area) plus 25 to 50% of net profit back to workers, depending time at the job, and hitting specific revenue targets. This would be $2-7/hr extra depending on A LOT of things. Professional Development – For those who are passionate about the service industry, providing at path to management, and then opening your own franchise/restaurant. This would include me as a financial partner in your new restaurant. Would this excite you? Any other ideas on how things could be different?
At least as I understand it, a cooperative eliminates shareholders insofar that everyone is equally one. Would establishing these in retail industries and subsequently boycotting problematic corporations be an actionable remedy to the overall problems discussed? I mean crowdfunding platforms exist, why not?
Just absolutely ruthless

What we all think of our boss
Before I speak about the topic I want to focus on workplace. I'm not an expert here, but I feel like an obvious solution to employees taking sudden leaves of absence, is to hire on call workers for that very occasion. Why can't you just have people on the books ready to temporarily take the place of those absent? I realize this may not work for complicated jobs that require training and education. But most labour jobs specifically, are pretty much child's play. Anyone with a brain could show up and take orders. Also labour jobs especially take a toll on people. It would make sense to offer your employees time off whenever they need it, as a lot of labour work is extremely taxing on both physical and mental health, and with them being the jobs that have the most work for the least pay in today's society, it…
