Company/Job Might Be Sold- Advice/What to Expect?

Hello, the company I work for might get sold. Any idea what I should expect? Have you been through something similar? Specifically, I would really appreciate advice on the *timeline* of how quickly this type of thing happens, as it pertains to potential layoffs… and what I might expect in terms of severance, and how the news would get communicated to me.

The Jobless

First published in March 1914 Generally speaking, there is neither any sincere and intelligent plan among the reformers, of whatever hue, to solve this great problem, nor any possibility of a thorough and final solution of unemployment within the legal and industrial boundaries of present-day capitalist society. Unemployment is no sporadic phenomenon of modern life. It is inherent in the character and mode of functioning of our industrial system. The jobless man is always with us, and industrial crises or stagnation, eliminating hundreds of thousands of workers, for a longer or shorter period, from the field of labor, are events of regular and inevitable recurrence. The causes of unemployment are ridiculously simple, and therefore so little understood. Sociologists, political economists, and reformists have succeeded in so confusing the issue that the real facts of the problem have been all but buried beneath a mass of fictitious issues concerning the tariff,…

Ex-employer did not send my W-2

So I used to work at this small bakery in Colorado and finally quit at the end of November last year. I was there for about 1,5 years and even though the owner is a toxic lady, I tried to end it on good terms giving her about 3 weeks notice and even came in after to help on a day before Thanksgiving knowing how busy it would be. She acted all nice, saying she'll write me a good recommendation letter, which I never got on my last day and I was very busy with moving to another country, so I haven't gotten to contact her again until late December. No reply. Then I emailed her on 3(!) both her work and personal emails, asking once again for recommendation and W-2. Now it's been over 2 weeks since that. I found her on Facebook and messaged her there too, but…

Applying for new jobs after working retail for 3 weeks.

I work at a gas station for the third shift on single coverage. I get paid minimum wage, and I don’t get a lunch break. I was okay with that when signing up… but my boss is so difficult to work for. I work constantly for my entire shift, but I sit for 20 min mid shift to rest my legs. She checks the camera when she comes into work so she can find things to be upset about. I should also add I also work a day job. I work 12-14 hours a day. I own my own business. I make enough money off the business to survive, but not flourish. I’m really tired of feeling like I’m walking on eggshells at my new job. I’m working the most dangerous job and shift (statistically) for literal poverty wages. Again, I was okay with that… but not if it means…

Are we gonna do anything?

I really vibe with the posts on this sub but seeing all this stuff is just deeply frustrating… is anything gonna happen? Do we do stuff here or is it literally an echo chamber for the same thing to be said a million times in a millions different ways? Things have to change, how can we make it happen?

More work (and hours) for less pay?

I work for a company where we go store to store stocking their moulding for them. When I was hired on the description I was given was I’d be assisting one of the older guys who had been there awhile. Apparently he’s still younger than 40 so not too old, but he has a shoulder injury from being there 9 years so his doctor only allows him to do the manual labor 4 hours a day at most. All this seemed fine and was cool when the first two months we were only doing 4ish hours a day and still getting paid full days. But since then, the last 3 months, they’ve added 3 new stores on top of our old workload, send my partner I was supposed to “assist” away somewhere else where he just has to write an order and he’s home within 3 hours while I do…

Warned for being 1 minute late…

I recently started working at a particular chicken centered restaurant in the UK (not KFC) and today, I was scheduled for 4pm. At around 3:15, there was a fire drill at the student accommodation I'm staying in, meaning we all had to give our room number and stand around until everyone is accounted for. Now, when I was trained I was told that if I think I'll be late, I should call in, even if I only thing it's 1 minute. It takes 20 minutes to walk to work, and by the time I got all my stuff together from my room, it was 3:27. I figured I'd get there a few minutes early, get dressed and do the pre-shift COVID check (a qr code we have to scan in the locker room that asks us some questions about COVID symptoms etc) and then clock in. Well theres no signal…
