I saved up enough money so that I could buy a car, so that I could make it to work, where I could make a wage where I’m praying that my car doesn’t break down, because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to make it to work…

The Home Depot, my experience

After coming out of the pandemic up here in Northern New England I figured it was time to get out a bit, get a part time job to pay some taxes and put a few extra nickles in the coffer. I applied for a job at the local Home Depot where I was offered a Customer Service job for $19.00 an hour with 15 to 22 hours a week. Perfect. Nothing too demanding. I go thru a week's worth of hiring process and day of training and things are going smooth when all of a sudden I get a call at home from HR… “Your rate of pay is wrong, it is not $19 but $14.50 an hour. We made a mistake and are very sorry.” I said to the HR lady “Three times you assured me $19.00 was the correct wage. I even inquired to make sure it was…

My father taught me a lesson that holds true today

First of all, this happened to me many years ago when I was a teenager and had zero life experience. I can't help but see the similarities in all of your stories happening now, it's a shame how little has changed in the way workplaces treat their employees. I was about 17 and I was offered a job working for a store that sold motorcycles, atv's, boats, and everything fun an outdoorsy. I was beyond excited to be around all these expensive toys all day. The company also liked to tell all their new hires about the perks and summer retreats where employees get to try them all out at the owners cottage or farm or wherever. On the first day I got to help lineup the motorcycles along the front entranceway and see all the boats, then I was walked to the business next door that did car oil…

Clueless early 50s coworker thinks a 22 year old employee has saved $100000 working for him for minimum wage

Early 50s coworker honestly believes a 22 year old employee at his small grocery store has saved $100000 working there for minimum wage. He was ranting today that all of the restaurants in town have “help wanted” signs up and no one will take the jobs because they’re receiving $600 a month from the govt. I had had enough of listening to his bullshit so I said to him there is a simple solution to the problem, just offer to pay the workers more fucking money. He went into a long rant about how he “knows better” because he’s a small business owner blah blah blah and he’d have to increase prices even higher if minimum wage went up, its $11.50ish here, no one would shop there anymore and he’d have to close. I informed him that less than 9% of Canadian workers earn minimum wage, prices are going up…

It’s insane how many people are leaving their jobs

I am softly looking and put my resume out to two companies. I then was out of state for work meetings at corporate and both wanted 1 hour video interviews to assess and go to next steps asap. I couldn’t make that happen given my work schedule and time zone differences within 24 hrs and told them I would love to when I return to my home….and both replied back that they have moved on to other candidates. Crazy.

Need advice

So I started working at this place and it pays $16/he which for me was a massive jump coming from $12 right before the pandemic started. Now one of the things my new coworkers brought up is pay. One said he makes $14 and to be honest I can see why he does cause he's extremely lazy and barely gets any work done so I think it's fair for him but the other guy does a lot more than me and he only makes $15. Now both of these guys have been there for 1.5-2 years so a lot more time than me and they're definitely getting underpaid. The one who makes $15 I think clearly deserves a raise but idk how to tell him without putting myself in danger of losing my job. I really need this job to pay some bills and especially my school debt for the…
