About two weeks ago I was passed over for a promotion. It was meant for me, discussions were had and all of my jobs duties were to be formally recognized. At the last minute they decided to bring in someone from another government office for optics reasons. For some reason they weren’t concerned about optics when my boss was promoted and only had the director handle the “interview”.
After the selected candidate was announced I sent a detailed email requesting immediate hand off of duties including introductions, summaries of projects progress and very basic tutorials. I refused to hand hold them through all of the duties and it’s not appropriate for me to train my supervisor.
I spoke with the deputy director and said she would settle the issue. She thought the director had settled everything, I said no, he just gas lit me that he was surprised about the outcome. I’m so infuriated because my supervisor was never my supervisor, she never assigned me duties or clearly communicated expectations. I’ve spent most of my time here basically filling in all the gaps, building capacity and now no one seems to think I did anything beyond basic work. They talked about how valuable I’ve been, how beneficial the work I’ve done has been, and now I’m worthless.
They’ve said wee will talk several times but haven’t said a word. Oh, just in i now have a meeting Monday to talk about how I will be handing off duties. Why is it my job to pester them to facilitate the transition. I’m looking for new jobs, but can’t get out of here fast enough.
