Pay not received

I applied to a restaurant job in my city as a line cook, per what the application was for. Long story short the job did not match the description detailed on the listing. I worked my first day fully and politely communicated to the general manager the following day that I would not be returning as the job was not right for me and thanked them for the opportunity. They were understanding and supportive of me and wished me well in my future endeavors. Fast forward two weeks to when I should have received pay for the day I worked and I got the run around of “Your check is in the mail”. Another two weeks goes by and I still have not received it. I’m in a bit of a tight position and the money could really help as I have bills to pay. I reached out to the general manager on two separate occasions and have not gotten a response.

Should I let it go? Should I file a claim with the department of labor/department of workforce development? This is the first time something like this has happened to me so I’m not quite sure what to do.
