There's been historic stikes in Belgium and the United Kingdom in the past days.
Train traffic in the UK was halted yesterday after the biggest train workers walkout in the last 3 decades.
In Belgium on monday, 70K workers went on a union strike and took to the streets in Brussels, causing the Brussels International Airport in particular to shut down. None of the 232 planned flights took off and only one in four arriving planes were allowed to land.
The Prime Minister of Belgium and the Minister of Transport in the UK both took to the news to state that striking is pointless and affects the wrong people the most.
My answer is striking is never the people's first recourse. People go on strike because they need change and are not being heard nor are satisfied with the results of negociations! Negociations are always the first step. But at the end of the day, the power is in the hands of the people! We can shut the system down! Today we've once again proven that. If you want to avoid us going on strike, if you want to avoid us shutting the system down: PAY. THE. WORKERS.
UK train personnel are striking for a 7% pay rase among other things. The Belgian Airport personnel is striking because the work pressure is too high and the general strike in Belgium was to better adjust wages to inflation. Belgian protestors emphasized the record profits of big companies and them deserving a piece of the pie that their labour is creating.
