I was laid off from work a little over a month ago. It was a terrible job and I was planning on leaving within a year anyway.
They gave me 6 months severance and because I live in MA my family is covered now by better health insurance than we had when I was working.
I have six months to look for a better job and also to spend some time with my family. I feel good, not stressed, catching up on sleep, indulging hobbies etc
And yet I keep hearing from family members “So what do you have coming up? You know you have a family to support. When are you going to be working again?!”
Or I hear from friends “I just feel so bad for you. Working was so important to you.” My dad dropped this one “I’ll bet you don’t feel like a man anymore without a job huh?!”
Like everyone fuck off. Your concern is appreciated but not warranted. I’m not sure what will happen or where I’ll be working in 6 months but I’m not going to rush into a shitty situation out of desperation.
Anyone else feel the same way about being laid off?
