Im on a throwaway account here as i'm paranoid about HR and people finding SM accounts.
I work for a manufacturing company working on critical components for the SpaceX starship. While I'm in a better situation than most employees, most people in our company can barely make rent. Some cannot afford necessary medical care (despite the company having some benefits) and at least one employee was unable to afford food at one point and some were on food stamps.
To my knowledge most are making ~10$ an hour and required to work 60 hrs a week. I'll leave you lot to run the math on rent and gas and food in this day and age.
The company president proudly boasted over $100mil in profits last year and have denied raises to employees. We have maybe 100 employees max. I'll let you lot run the math on that too.
The existential problem I am facing is that we will not escape our earthly problems by building rockets and going to mars, we will bring them with us. If the manned mars mission comes to pass, it will probably be one of the most historic accomplishments in the history of all mankind. But I want it to be known that it is being built on the backs of people that can barely afford food and a roof over their heads. And I hope that that's in the history holo-books a thousand years from now.
