A friend (white, male, and disabled) got this offer from the gov't, he turned them down.
– My friend applied, went through the background check, immunizations, etc.
– This job offer as far as we presently understand things, violates the ACA, and FAR. Insurance must be offered if full-time, regardless of length.
– This offer very likely violates the current Federal Employee's contract.
– The announcement stated my friend would be a Federal Employee (not a contractor of any kind), full-time with applicable benefits until the end of September.
– HR verbally gave him the job offer a month ago but waited until the last second to give him the written offer.
– The speculation is that this offer was crafted this way and delayed so my friend would be forced to say no.
– Even the HR Asst at the VA who had nothing to do with the role that he talked to was shocked at these terms.
– Apparently the person who was shepherding/championing him left a month ago and no one told him.
– I advised my friend to send copies of everything to the Gov't Oversight and Reform Committee. Who will undoubtedly have questions for this VA's HR about their hiring and retention schemes. And if the position is filled who did they fill it with and what terms was that person given.
