I'm a manager at my job making 62K. I asked for a raise and they said no and instead offered me a new position that pays 75K. I have no interest in this role but felt backed into a corner and I wanted more pay so I took the role. I wouldn't transition into the role into we find someone to backfill my current position. It took about 4-5 months to find a backfill and I've been training this person to do my exact job for nearly a month now. This person, let's call her Sarah, pulled me aside today to tell me she has decided to leave the company to pursue other endeavors. We speak more candidly and I tell her how I asked for a raise when I had her role but they declined and I asked her if she felt comfortable sharing how much she makes. She told me she makes 92K. 30K more than what I made in that role. Nothing against her, but she didn't bring anything revolutionary to the role to justify this pay disparity. Day in and day out I've been training this person to do all the work and processes I built so she can make 30K more than me. I was so livid I left work crying and now all my bosses are trying to contact me. Friends are trying to talk me down saying that it's not fair but it's part of the corporate game and that the ball is in my court now. I'm so upset I don't know how I can face my team.
