At my 9-5 workplace, they nearly have an aneurism if you ask to take any UNPAID time off if you run out of vacation days. They tell us it is “not approved”, so we can’t take it off.
But here’s the kicker…
If someone has a doctor’s appointment and needs to leave ½ hour early, they force us to take an entire 4 hour block that’s deducted from our Sick Time. This is presumably because we get paid for our unused Sick Time, and they want to save money – so they force us to waste the time, at a detriment to us.
Now please explain…
This company is obviously so cheap that they want us to waste our Sick Time, so they don’t need to pay out as much at year’s end. But…
Why then can’t we take voluntary UNPAID time (for which we are punishing ourselves via our paychecks)? The company would save their precious money, and the employee would get the time they needed.
The lack of reasoning behind this makes me furious.
