Position Outsourced to Costa Rica – Was Supposed to be Redeployed, Hung Out to Dry instead. #Anti-Work

I was working for one of the big 5 when I accepted a contract position stating that I would be working as a a collaborative engineer and consultant for one of the big 3 consulting firms because my boss at the current job was just a piece of absolute shit. The contract was set until July and just a month and a half ago, it was confirmed that the contract had enough budget to keep the engineers on payroll until then. With this knowledge, I picked up my life and moved across the country only to learn the following 1 week into my settling into my new home: Probably like 3 weeks ago I was told that my position “no longer existed” as of the end of the week because “the money wasn't there”. Probably like 3 weeks ago I was told that my position “no longer existed” as of the end of the week because “the money wasn't there”. After some inquiries I found that they pulled the budget for MY position (1 of 2 engineers on contract) and put it into Costa Rica in order to save on salary. Throughout all of this I was told how great of a job I did, how redeployment would be easy and quick, how I was young but very experienced and “You got this!” I proceeded to tell them that it was incredibly unprofessional because if the roles were reversed they would expect at least a 2 week notice from me.

Well, it happened and I got into a couple of interviews with the help of the original recruiting, both of which had no correlation with my actual skills or previous positions. After bombing on those interviews (rightfully so since they were not matched with my skillset) I was told that my recruiter would get a hold of my local office. It's been about 2 weeks and they “haven't been able to get in contact with the account manager there.”

So here I am posting this on Anti-Work 3 weeks after being let go. Still jobless, on unemployment for the first time in my life, and all because a multibillion dollar company wanted to save a few grand.
