I work manufacturing (night shift) and there are 4 shifts in my department. Every shift has a supervisor, then a department head over them. Every shift needs a sub-supervisor. It is a title and you fill in when the supervisor isn't in. Thing is, nobody on my shift wants it. It's a bullshit position.
I agreed to fill in in December because the supervisor had vacation he had to use before year's end or he lost it. So I did. Now, I'm sub supervisor. When he goes on break, I get the department phone. When he's not in (once or twice a week) I am supervisor. It would seem like a promotion. It's not.
The thing is, it's a dollar raise, but only on days you're acting supervisor. I understand a dollar is a dollar, but I make $30/hr now. This dollar is kind of arbitrary. So I make $12 more pretax a week for this position?
There aren't really any other duties outside of that, other than it's a title and I do what the supervisor does when he's not in and that's a regular basis. How do I get out of this? I would be more ok with it if it was an actual raise.
