I quit my job right after our Christmas party at the end of December. A 730 dinner party at our shitty little convention center. The food was some frozen sysco shit.
I get severe anxiety at holiday events and and dislike organized religion in general. The boss wrote everyone paper bonus checks for 500 but said anyone who did not attend would not get their bonus. After a great deal of stress i decided to go. I stuck the annoying paper check in my car and left it there for a few days. I exploded at work sometime the next few days because I'm kinda crazy anyway.
Later I spilled water on the check and it became un-cashable. My boss was such an abusive prick that I was actually scared and ashamed to ask for another. 3 months later they eventually got around to reconciling the bank account i guess, because I got a text asking about the check that hadnt cleared from the CFO. I told her the envelope had gotten wet and the bank would not accept it and that I had been ashamed to ask for another. “No problem, we will send you one right out.” Two weeks. Nothing. Three weeks. Nothing. Finally I'm pissed off enough to ask a loaded question. “Did you ever decide on sending another check or correcting my w-2?” I had already spent my tax refund and paid the tax on it. Another week. Nothing. I'm not rich at all and I know theyre sitting on this just to piss me off. The big boss is the signer and he likes to bully.
Luckily I had been using this sub and saw a possible opportunity to best my abuser. So I asked a second loaded question. “Should I file a wage claim?” I had a message back within the hour: “So sorry I'm just responding I will send the check out Monday.” That was over the weekend. Tomorrow is Wednesday and would be the first day I should really expect to receive it. I only have 180 days to file the claim, so I'm going to get started if it isn't in my mailbox tomorrow. The paperwork looks pretty simple actually. I was an exempt employee, but I say I actually worked for that $500 because I attended the party that was presented to me as mandatory to receive it.
Any advice? I would even like to hear the outlandish ones.
