Back in November, the acting director of my department was let go with the understanding that I would be the replacement. To be clear, I have essentially been the de facto director for the prior 2 years as the acting directors were absolutely useless.
Upon negotiations, I asked for a number which was shut down and offered a lower number with the option of fairly easily attainable quarterly bonuses based on measurable milestones namely in the form of delegating tasks. Despite numerous efforts to finalize these milestones, I could not get the time of day and the only version that exists is a draft that myself and executive director put together.
Last week, my executive director sat with the president for approval of quarter 1 bonus, and each milestone was torn apart by the President for very suspect reasons despite me completing and even exceeding 4 of the 5 milestones for that quarter.
The President is now expecting me to take on 10-15 additional staff members and an entire new department with no talk of pay increase.
I am keen to have a blunt conversation with her that due to the fact she has denied my bonus for unclear reasons, I will not be taking on additional duties without a significant salary increase up front.
Am I overreacting? I’m just sick of being in the “earn it” role and getting screwed in the end.
