Previous company paid me twice after leaving…

Backstory: I left a previous SaaS company for another SaaS company (different markets of products) and had the worst experience being onboarded. I was outright lied to about the salary (but they somehow still provided me more than what I had previously made), my title was changed after a month at the company, and my “sign-on” bonus was a “poorly worded end-of-year bonus.” That “poorly worded end-of-year bonus” that I was promised to be paid in full was another lie, I was provided a shitty prorated portion of it when I left the company. I stuck around knowing that, while the company was a bold-faced liar, I could work roughly an hour a day and focus on obtaining all of those juicy certificates that I had not been able to afford. I got to spend a lot of time taking care of myself and my burn-out, I am very thankful…

I stuck around knowing that, while the company was a bold-faced liar, I could work roughly an hour a day and focus on obtaining all of those juicy certificates that I had not been able to afford. I got to spend a lot of time taking care of myself and my burn-out, I am very thankful for that. The company can still kick rocks, though.

Moving on, I didn't catch the first payment, as I had been on vacation before I started my new job. After doing my taxes last week, I finally did a thorough check on my account and I noticed that I had been paid out by them…. twice.

I JUST FUCKING KNEW they would forgot to remove me from their systems. No exit interview was provided by HR, no formal process or email detailing items I needed to send back or complete.

I reached out to HR to let them know that I would be happy to return the funds, but they would need to correct my W-2. Apparently, updating my W-2 would be too much work for them, so instead we agreed to allow me to keep the money they've paid to me since I have been gone, and move my termination date instead. I've screenshot and saved these emails just in case as well.

In the end, they paid me double the bonus that I was incredibly upset over losing a large majority of, got another month of my health/dental/vision insurance, and get to keep all the fancy electronics they sent my way.

They would have saved roughly 10k if they had taken care to remove me from any systems and had followed through on exit protocols.

The best part? Tomorrow is my birthday!
