I see a lot of egregious workplace violations posted in here with a slew of comments “that’s illegal, tell them to fuck off” to which, yeah, but also they’re likely to just get fired.
Most people will not have the time, resources, connections, or mental stamina to go through a lawsuit with a corporate legal team.
They know this, this is why they break the rules.
Reporting is helpful, at the very least because it creates a paper trail.

Also, your local news probably has an “on your side” team/reporter that will maybe air out shit on TV, which no company wants.
