I think the profit per employee ratio is probably one of the best ways to show the extent by which we are being effed.
Take Apple for example, they achieved net earnings of $94.68 billion in 2021 and had 154,000 employees that year, that means per employee they generated a profit of $614,000. They could literally afford to pay ALL of their employees an extra $300,000 a year or an extra $150 per hour and still keep half of their profits!
Admittedly, not every company has profits per employee that big and some companies run on very thin margins. But a large number of the largest companies in the world makes at least $50-100k in profit per employees. They could easily give US ALL an extra $25-50k per year and still keep half their profits so that the shareholders can buy a 2nd yacht or a 5th mansion.
It's just absolutely maddening when you think about it, there's only around 60,000 people in the world with a net worth of more than $100 million. Literally all of those people would fit into one sports stadium but this TINY TINY group of group of people is the reason why so many of us are living miserable lives in poverty and slaving away instead of caring for our families, communites, the planet, they're the reason why we don't spend our lives travelling, making art or doing music. Life could be amazing but instead these psychopaths are turning life into hell because they just want MORE AND MORE AND MORE for themselves.
But there's also hope I guess, they are a tiny minority and we are billions of people. One can hope that one day we still stand up for ourselves and claim back what is rightfully ours.
