Promotion without interview… any tricks I should watch out for?

I felt like this sub would know the most about this… Offered a promotion from current position in my already underpaid job to a higher position. It is more pay but still underpaid and comes with more work and responsibilities as well as being expected to be contactable. The salary range is a 16% – 28.5% raise for the new position. Direct manager is great but the company & managers manager… not so much. My manager doesn’t get a say on who gets hired it’s his manager who has deigned to come down from their office and inform me in person rather than carrying out an interview. I’ve already been told he’s going to lie to me about how he chose me over applications from outside the company (they have only advertised within the company so there aren’t any) and their expectations of me, because they are “taking a risk,…

The only thing I’ve considered so far is that they may try to give the lower end of the advertised salary which is completely unfair for the work that I’ll be required to do.

I want to know;

Best way to bring up the salary and stand my ground, in that I won’t accept less than the highest advertised rate

If there’s any crap they might try and pull and how to deal with said crap.

The company itself aren’t particularly moral and my managers manager is a prolific liar who has lied to me directly numerous times as well as to clients in the limited interactions that we have had.

Thanks :))
