My sister left her last job after 6 years because her company was bought out by a larger corporation, no discussion prior- just go to this room for onboarding, elevated her to higher position with more responsibilities with no raise, then attempted to force her to use a shell company to pay undocumented workers. She declined. Lawyer hired = settlement reached.
Next, she found a new job in non-profit, and was very happy. After a few months she was told employees receive the state required 1 week of sick time, and 1 week of PTO. Ever. 1 week of PTO annually, never any more, no exceptions AND taking unpaid time off is absolutely not permitted. This policy applied from executives to janitorial staff, the only exceptions: CEO and HR director (claimed they were “grandfathered in” company age: 2 years!) The same 2 people writing and rewriting policy daily. CEO micromanages people like they’re working at a burger joint.
My sister, the CFO, is 15 minutes late and she’s called in for a discussion by CEO and HR. They start with that and she sighs, rolls her eyes, and says, “I’m 54 years old and you’re calling me in to scold me for 15 minutes? Seriously? You arrived AFTER I did!” And it just got better from there. She told them half their staff are interviewing for other jobs due to the lack of work life balance and basic dignity and respect. Called them out on all the BS and CEO had a FIT! And she has an interview today for 10k more.
