PSA: a company shouldn’t allow you to make any mistake they couldn’t bear for you to make

We need to stop accepting the drive for perfection in the workplace and the stress it causes. HUMANS ARE FALLIBLE. This fact should be incorporated into all work procedures. If a mistake will be too costly or damaging to accept as an occasional likely occurrence, then nobody should be allowed to make it. That means, for example, putting in an approvals system where two pairs of eyes have to sign something off. Or installing computer systems that limit you to the correct actions and make incorrect actions impossible. Basically, taking the facility off one person to make that mistake. If you make a mistake that has really screwed your company, and it wasn’t malicious or negligent, but just human error, and your company hadn’t foreseen or mitigated that possibility in any way, it’s not your fault. It’s the company’s. You are not a robot.
