I’m writing this for people who were like me: afraid to quit because of “repercussions.” When I was younger, I thought there was an HR blacklist. I thought that if I quit on bad terms then future background checks could magically bring them up. My potential employer would be able to get a previous employers number, call them, and find out I quit on bad terms and decide not to hire me
Well, a couple years ago I quit a job I was working at for a week. I wanted to give 2 weeks but my boss tried to avoid me. She kept saying we’ll talk about it, attempting to make me stay an hour after my shift so that she can try to get me to stay. So I quit right in front of all the students and parents, we made a big scene, and I left with her hating my guts.
I was paranoid that this could be on my “record” and background checks would pick it up. Well, here I am a couple years later and not a single employer knows about this. You literally just don’t put the job in your resume/background check application and you’re good. There’s no omnipotent HR final boss who knows everything you did and tells all your future bosses what happened. But for some reason young people like me believed it.
Do your thing, quit on your terms. Do what’s best for you. If your boss was kind of an asshole, don’t be afraid and make it a little fun for yourself
