I just started at my dream job. I haven't been doing it for super long but I'm doing really well, at least that's what my direct supervisor and program director has told me.
I have a coworker who has been there for years, and she is full of valuable information, but she's also a micromanager to all the new people. At first it was great and helpful, but now it's annoying and petty.
I spoke to the director about this issue, and they stated they'd talk to my coworker without using my name, because, well, that's just common sense you would think.
My supervisor pulled me aside and told me I'm doing a great job (verbatim: if I had five of you I'd be all set) but that going to the director for things was skipping the chain of command and that it could technically be considered insubordination. She then asked about my coworker, and I told her what was going on.
Later in the day I see said coworker and she was acting really weird; she clearly talking shit about someone and was avoiding my gaze. I got a funny feeling. So, I went to my supervisor and asked if she talked to my coworker and used my name when she did. She said, “well of course.” I said, “what? Don't you think that's inappropriate and can cause her to retaliate against me?” Then she gaslit me and said, “no that's probably just YOUR perception.”
I'm so fucking angry I really want to find another job. And I can't even talk to my director about it because it'll be considered “insubordination?!” That's not even what insubordination is….ffs
