I work in the HVAC field. I’ve got about 7 years in, six years with my company, and an associates degree.
My current company dramatically underpays me, about $24hr. I recently accepted a union journeyman position making over twice the hourly rate, with benefits included as well as a pension. There was no chance a counter offer would have been anything close to acceptable.
I messaged my manager letting him know next Friday would be my last day. He didn’t respond. He did however complain about it to my coworker, who immediately let me know. It’s been about 4 hours now and he still hasn’t acknowledged my message.
It’s this type of behavior and lack of respect that had me even looking for a new job in the first place. HVAC is not crap work, it’s actually a great field to work in but it’s plagued by mismanagement and shit office workers.
I’ve got a bet going with my coworker that I get let go tomorrow morning.
(I only gave a two weeks as a courtesy. I could start the new place tomorrow if I wanted.)
