My first job out of college was a hybrid between my experience, IT, and the public policy I wanted to do. I was a technical account manager for a lot of customers who had custom website and database products. Not only were the products complicated, but the customers were all high powered lobbyists and they were given to me because most them were ex military like me. Nightmare stuff when you have a staff change over because custom stuff is finicky and usually not well documented, and the clients were a bit anal about how they liked things done.
I was offered a job by one of our customers doing the public policy work that I wanted to be doing. I put in my two weeks notice and immediately wanted to start talking about turnover plans for my accounts and the products. It was going to take the full two weeks to do turnover meetings and train people on the products.
Well, my boss basically ghosted me. For the next week and a half I asked her daily if we had a plan for turnover and she’d just say “not yet”. She didn’t utter a single word to me other than that and cancelled our check ins.
Three days before my last day, my boss’ boss called me into his office and asked me to push back my last day so they could do proper turnover. I told him That I couldn’t, there were already important meetings scheduled at my new job which included plane tickets for an off site meeting days after I started. He literally said “I’ll call Bill (my new boss) I’m sure he won’t mind.” Mind you, he didn’t know my new boss, just found his name out from me. I made it crystal clear that if he did that I’d be leaving immediately with no turnover.
The next three days was a flurry of them trying to catch up on turnover and constantly asking me to work extra hours because three days wasn’t enough time.
