Hello! I’m posting this on a throwaway account but I just wanted to get some insight as to if this is normal/legal.
I’ve been working part-time at a large retail company for about 3-4 months.
This is my first job but I’ve had an awful time there. Other than the minimum wage pay (around £6.80 an hour) and all the verbal abuse I’ve received from certain management; the turnover of staff has been huge since I started- I’m talking about 20-30 people.
Due to this considered one of the most experienced members of staff
I put my two weeks notice in a few days ago. I logged in to look at my shifts and I’ve noticed that they’ve gone down from 25 hours a week to 10 and 8 hours a week. Can a company do this? And should I finish my 2 week notice period? I have accepted a new job that pays almost double what I’m earning now, but I don’t want to ‘burn bridges’ so to speak and potentially ruin my new job.
Any advice would be really appreciated!
TL:DR- Handed notice in at minimum wage, toxic workplace and have had hours cut- what is the protocol here?
