Antiwork

Put my two weeks in and everyone is acting like I’m the asshole.

I work at a non-for-profit where seven of us are “production cooks” but our duties are actually that of a manager or assistant manager: opening or closing the kitchen with keys, supervising servers dishwashers and Cooks, inventory, orders, etc. We make $30k/year before taxes, about half what an assistant manager should be making at a similar operation. For months I have tried to motivate people to collectively ask for raises, promotions, etc, but my coworkers all seem to have wives with six-figure incomes subsidizing their shitty job so they don't seem to care. I've made no secret over the fact that my rent is going up and my wife has been out of work due to an illness and I cannot afford to pay my bills. Found an assistant manager job at a fast casual restaurant making 56k, accepted the job on Monday and put my notice in. One of…

One of my co-workers basically is no longer speaking to me and the other one said something like

“I understand I just really wish you could have given us some more lead time”

My response was that my bills don't have “lead time”.

I expected there to be a reaction but I didn't think everyone was going to act like I was single-handedly sabotaging the operation when that has been done by executive management for years.

The fact that I know damn well that they will not be able to replace me in that 2 weeks, or hell maybe even for the rest of the year, is not my fault and should not be my concern.

Just felt like venting I guess.
