Hi guys!
Idk if this is the right place to ask this, but everyone here seems very knowledgeable about workers rights and all that. So I just started a new job at a call centre. Last week was training week and I got an hour lunch (I work a 9 hour shift). This week, my hours changed (Still working 9 hours, just at night instead of the day), and my leads seemed confused about me asking for a lunch. They say normally people just eat and stuff between calls. I can kinda of see that and it can be pretty dead with no calls so I can see that maybe they wouldn't be having a lunch break, but I felt really awkward asking and I'm really scared to bring it up again. I was also told that 9 hrs isn't considered a full time shift. Even though I work 5 days a week. At this place they have employees who are 7 days on, 7 days off for 12 hour shifts each day, and they just work through it with no breaks. I'm not really sure what exactly I'm asking, I guess if I was wrong to ask about a lunch break? It feels weird being the only one with a lunch break when everyone else is working 12 hours straight through. What should I do? Should I ask my boss about this? Should I just work through my lunch and eat between calls like everyone else? I'm not really sure what to do here. Sorry for the long rambling post but I was just curious. Any insight or advice you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
