To preface, I recently saw an ad on YouTube for a company called Klaviyo. It opens with a narration saying the name of the actress and says something to the effect of “She loves canary yellow” or “She hates short sleeved shirts” and ends with an offer to know your customers as an e-commerce site.
My question is, how has this become normalized? Why do businesses like this feel comfortable advertising the fact they can gather any and all information about a potential customer ?
(I am on a work computer, I don’t why this ad was targeted to me.)
