Hey folks—
I’m a big believer in do what your paid to do, but don’t do more. I was good at this in my old career, but now I’m in tech and it’s scary. Imposter syndrome is hard and after working my ass off for 12+ years I have a hard time wrapping my mind around: it is this easy.
I’ve been disengaging from work, partly because I’m so damn burnt out and partly because I’m leaving. Part of me just wants to burn it all down but I had a revelation this morning-
How I choose to leave this job is a reflection of my morals/internal ‘is this right?’ voice. No, I’m not giving two weeks but I’m making sure when I do leave all my projects are in a state to hand over.
I post this to say:
It’s easy to read everything here and think you’ll only do those things (no notice, work isn’t ‘family’, boundaries, etc) however for me, it’s a struggle. You don’t have to burn the bridge to standup for yourself. Alternatively, if you want to burn the bridge please do.
TL;DR : standing up for yourself is hard. Anti work isn’t about saying fuck work 100% of the time, but rather making sure your values, time, and money are being respected. You don’t have to be ‘perfect’ you just need to advocate for yourself the way HR advocates for your employer
