I'm a truck driver, and I like driving trucks. Shit is fun. Im a flatbedder which means I have an open deck trailer where I have to chain and or strap my cargo. It's great, it's physical and it's a puzzle. Shit, I like this job so much I actually enjoy driving steel into Manhatten in a 80 foot rig lol. It's just a fun ass job.
So small back story, last flatbed job i had was just bad. Owner was insane, shady shit was going on, no safety standards, so I left. New job I got was a construction company doing dump trucks. Yada Yada, thought it was gonna be a good opportunity but nah.
Dude was paying me $6 less an hour that agreed on because of his system where 1.5 hours of the day didn't count for some fucken reason I don't know why. Plus, I was told on rain days I'd be working in the shop which didn't happen, thought it'd be a 65k a year job but it was a 40k a year job.
So last week I found a proper trucker gig. Small company, bad ass trucks, really cool loads, high pay, benefits, bonus's, 6 month raise reviews, even pays $25 a month for your cell phone. And the trucks are beautiful. Like trucks you can just fucken feel cool as hell driving and drive nice as hell. Proper old school trucks too.
So last week took the drug test and was hoping I'd get it back quick so I could at least give a notice of some sort. Didn't work out that way and had to quit on the spot today
Was telling some coworkers it's my last day and eventually got to the boss who I was gonna tell at the end of the day. And it was funny cuz earlier in the day was the most time I spent alone with him because he gave me a ride back from the truck dealer, he wouldn't even make conversation with me for the 30 min drive no matter what I said.
So word got to him it was my last day and he comes up to me and is all like “I treated you fairly and yadayada you think it's OK because a better opportunity arises that you have the right to just leave???”
“yes, I'm sorry, I wish it could have worked out easier for you!” with a smile on my face.
Then he pulled a “you can't quit because you're fired”
Come to find out from a coworker that even people who leave a 2 weeks get dropped on the spot so don't worry about it.
This dude was so mad but I made sure I was nothing but kind.
Look, if you provided an amazing work environment you wouldn't have people quit on the spot. Don't get mad at me, fix your system so people want to stay.
