Quit my job today. Apparently refusing to poison a customer constitutes an “attitude problem”.

Bit of context. Got this job about 8 weeks ago through the job centre. It's a small cafe with a shop attached and we serve very basic food that's mostly either sandwiches or “fancy” microwaved meals. On my second shift the chef warns me that the manager (who will remain nameless unless I forget) is a moron and I shouldn't listen to him. 2 weeks later the chef quits because the manager almost serves peanuts to a kid who's deathly allergic. So yesterday a customer comes in and orders 2 full English breakfasts, one without beans. I remember that she's come in before and has ordered the same thing because she's allergic to beans (Bean allergy is a lot more common that people think since haricot beans are very closely related to peanuts). I start making the food, like I say it's mostly microwaved stuff and pre cooked meats so…

So yesterday a customer comes in and orders 2 full English breakfasts, one without beans. I remember that she's come in before and has ordered the same thing because she's allergic to beans (Bean allergy is a lot more common that people think since haricot beans are very closely related to peanuts).

I start making the food, like I say it's mostly microwaved stuff and pre cooked meats so a monkey could do it. Manager stops me and says i “haven't had the training” so he would do it. This is irritating but not surprising, he often stops me halfway through a job to take it over himself (and then fucks it up) but what can you do?

I tell him only one has beans because the customer is allergic and he nods.

I tell him again when I see him microwaving what looks like 2 portions worth of beans.

I tell him again when I see him putting the beans on the plate.

The moron puts beans on both.

He asks me to run the food over and I refused. Bear in mind I took the order, I know what it's meant to be. He asks me why I'm refusing and I say “she's allergic to beans mate, I told u this”. He tells me to “just take it over and see what she says”. I tell him outright that I won't take this food over and he gets pissy with me. I ignore him and start making the order again, right this time. About half an hour later he sends me home early.

When I come in this morning he tells me we need to have a serious talk about my attitude problem. No fucking way am I gna sit down and listen to a man who can't follow “don't put beans on that, she's allergic” tell me that I'm doing my job wrong.

It'll happen again and now that me and the chef have quit there won't be anyone to stop it before it does. What makes it worse is all the higher ups know how useless this guy is, he's only got the job because his sister is the bosses wife.

Anyway, rant over, I've got a trial shift at an actual competent business on Friday so wish me luck.
