First time posting so let's see how it goes. I've been working as a pastry chef at a place for the past 2 years. Has been fantastic and loved having full creativity over my menu planning. Had a few bumps in the road here and there but nothing too bad. This year started off badly though due to them stating I won't receive an assistant. Mind you we do parties of 200/300 come summer time and I'm a 1 man department. I've had weeks of 1000 pastries, plus a new menu rollout, plus another large party of 500ppl.
Anyways, they stated I wouldn't get an assistant because they “couldn't afford it.” This is a non profit that makes money hand over fist. So I figured I'd try to make it thru somehow. Working 70hr weeks 6/6.5 days on average just burnt me out. I call a meeting with exec chef(s) and AGM. State my case and low and behold, they come up with funds for an assistant all of a sudden. So that drew me back from the edge of quitting. That is, until the AGM got super unprofessional and created a hostile work environment.
He doesn't respect anyone under 35, he's a Boomer. Proceeds to call me boy/son as a power move. Has been known to ask if a coworker was autistic and called him an autistic character name from a famous novel. Told a female coworker that she shouldn't eat so much lunch or she'll get fat. And more and more. Extremely unprofessional the past 1/1.5 months and I just said screw it. I've had multiple jobs always reach out and I finally responded to one. Got a nice raise and will be working less hours. The funniest thing of all is, that 99.9% of the recipes are mine and will leave with me. Should be interesting to see how that unfolds considering no one has experience to make my type of product.
Sadly they didn't seem to say anything to AGM so that'll continue on. I know more and more people will quit because of him but they don't seem to want to fix it. Unfortunate you lose a head of a department and aren't curious why. His negative energy has festered and more people who started out nice, are a-holes now. Looking forward to my new opportunity and less hours.
Sorry rant over. Thanks
