Background: My job is to help people gain/retain employment and up-skill in their current jobs to make a sustainable living for themselves. The company gets grant funding from State and Federal sources for us to spend on people enrolled in the programs. Usually, income is the biggest qualifier and if you make too much, we can't spend money on you. Due to the pandemic, the individual income limits have been lifted and things are being calculated based on the area someone lives. I live in what they consider a “distressed community” meaning that essentially anyone in the community is eligible just because of the county they live in.
So here's the rant. I got a referral from a higher up today to enroll someone in our programming so we can buy a laptop for him while he completes a CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER certification. He is currently the Chief Nursing Officer at the only (rather large) hospital in our area. When I pushed back on why we are spending our (my) time on this, I was basically hushed and told that if someone qualifies then enroll them and since he lives in this county…he qualifies. He easily makes over $200k a year. I make $16/hour. The government sucks and the amount of time and paperwork necessary to enroll someone in a program, even for just a laptop is absurd. This will take me probably 20 hours of back and forth with my supervisor over a couple weeks to get it approved… So that this fucker can get a free laptop that this fucker could order from Amazon in 10 minutes.
So. Fucking. Stupid.
