Rant: The current hiring process is demeaning

I'm currently 4 months into the job hunt, after 7 years at my current job, seeking a transition and I couldn't find the process more archaic or deaming than its current state. Endless unaswered applications, stoic interviews that become blatantly disrespectful asking questions like “Describe your worse boss” or “Tell us about an arbitrary time that you had a disagreement with a coworker” have caused me to stop pursuing roles. IMO these questions screen for nothing other than rehearsed rhetoric. They fail to accurately measure a candidates depth. My resume is buried in the stack if I don't tweak it to contain the exact verbs and pronouns as the job description. It's exhausting. IMO these questions screen for nothing other than rehearsed rhetoric. They fail to accurately measure a candidates depth.

My resume is buried in the stack if I don't tweak it to contain the exact verbs and pronouns as the job description. It's exhausting. From the recruiters who screen my application and then have a 5 minute phone call where they read the job description (as if I haven't read it 10 times already) and then ask me “why I want to work for the company?” Expecting some deeply rooted value based answer – “I want to work for your company because I have fucking bills and you're hiring, period.”

The entire process is down right disrespectful and needs to be reworked. But that's just wishful thinking. The reality is the C-suite members don't care. The solutions to these issues are easily fixed. Streamline the in entire process. Ensure that someone can effectively get “eyes on” each resume. Offer some justification for rejections. Items and elements for the candidate to work on or convey better next time. Use JUST THE RESUME during the application process. STOP using systems that have applicants submit a resume then have them fill in that exact same information! Accept that we live in a deeply unequal society and people just need to work to feed their fucking families. They don't want to work for your company to serve some deeper meaning. Nor do they need to. The perceived idea that my life is incomplete because I don't work at your company is one of the biggest slight of hands of our time.
