This has come up a few times lately, but I wanted to add on to the story that happened here. Last week, there were collections for both the manager and director of the department I work in. I didn't contribute to either, subscribing to the “gifts should flow downstream” ethos. There was no backlash or negative pressure for me to do. However, the director made his rounds this morning to thank everyone for contributing. You can bet your ass I don't have the guts to fess up and admit I didn't contribute. Instead, I responded with, “That's me, Mr. Generosity!” So, thanks for the brownie points, fellow staff members!
