I've been working at a grocery chain as a deli clerk for about 2.5 months now. And I already have to quit. When I interviewed, I asked for 25 hours a week, and said “I might be able to work weekends occasionally”. Well, they took that and ran with it. I'm now working 30+ hours a week, and am being scheduled every single Saturday AND Sunday. I need my weekends to rest, prevent burnout (I'm autistic and get burnt out VERY easily), and need at least 2 days that I KNOW I'm off so I can schedule doctors appointments for my chronic illness. I've explained all of this to both management and HR, and they told me that they cannot change my availability, and that I cannot continue working there unless I work weekends. When I asked if they could ask me ahead of time if I was available for the weekends, my manager told me that because I “said I could work weekends” when I applied, that he will schedule me as he sees fit. Not to mention they've been paying me $15/hour when they very clearly advertise that deli clerks get paid $16/hour. When I brought this up and asked them to fix it and pay me retroactively, my HR manager told me “they” don't usually pay retroactively. Who the fuck is “they”, and hell no, give me my fucking money! All my requests for schedule changes have been denied. They switch my schedule around without warning. And to top it all off, every time I complain, my manager gives me passive aggressive/guilt tripping responses. I'm done.
