So I’m not new to the working world, but recruiting has been a somewhat new concept to me.
When I initially wanted to increase the proposed salary the recruiter was going to offer to the company, they basically said it’s a bad idea. I wasn’t really that upset, because it paid really well regardless and I thought maybe the recruiters had some insight or previous clients failed for asking for too much.
I finally pass all the interviews, and it’s time for an offer. I told the recruiter since I did so well and it was a technical job, I should ask for more so that if I become a full-time hire, my salary will be higher.
The recruiter told me “yeah I’m just really protective of them, they are doing good in the world and if you’re like that you just don’t fit in. If you’re just after money this ain’t the place for you.”
A few months later, another contractor joined the company and the company made a mistake and included the cut the recruiters are making in his offer. I didn’t believe him and ask him to send it to me.
The recruiters are taking 40% of my pay. So let me get this straight. You tell me not to price gouge them because they are nice and doing good, but you also tell me not to negotiate while you take 40%. Also, I was the first recruited member at the company.
Recruiters should be obligated to say how much they are making. The lady sounded so nice and guilt tripped me only to find out she was extremely deceitful.
Watch your back. Always negotiate for more.
