Hey all! So I recently applied for a different job, clinical research. I put on my application a list of my previous employment. It also asked if they can contact my previous employer to which I said “yes.” The other options were “no” and “not at this time.” I feel like I shot myself in the foot by saying “yes” because I didn’t want to seem sus.
So basically, I had the most amazing interview experience and my prospective employer and teammates liked me for a full time research position. I had an impressive resume (pre-med school stuff) – sorry for bragging but pertains to how I somehow didn’t get the job.
The only thing is that when I gave my 3 months notice for my previous employer (left in August), they were beyond pissed bc they couldn’t find anyone to pay a non living wage for grunt clinical work during a pandemic. They tried calling me if I would come back in December, but I politely refused. Now I’m thinking that this is the only part of my application where I might be at a disadvantage.
TL:DR: Applied for a job I was super qualified for, but previous employer lied about my performance to the job I want because I left with a 3 months notice and now they can’t find anyone else to pay someone a horrible wage for the work they have them do.
