I work in a multi billion dollar medical company and work in a pharmacy at that company. I get paid extremely well for what I do and generally happy with the work I do.
However I got covid and was kicked out of work for 14 even with a negative test (strict protocols) I wasn’t worried about it as I have a ton of PTO and a about 90 hours of sick time.
Company policy is they use 3 days of PTO and then use your sick time when your out sick no matter what it is.
I wake up this morning to 1/4 of my usual paycheck. WTF?! I also am owned a $1000 bonus for being “employee of the quarter” and he still hasn’t given me that on top of this. I have a family to feed. I walk into my bosses office and was very kind trying to understand what went wrong I figured he just forgot to add my sick hours. He then looks at me and said “I will not give you sick days, your unvaccinated and don’t deserve them your part of the problem”
My jaw DROPPED, I was furious and said “we’ll have to discuss this further” and I walked out of the office. I am not vaccinated as I feel there is no need for me to be. I’m a very healthy 22 year old and beat my first dose of covid no problem before the vaccine. I just feel it’s not necessary for me. I respect everyone’s choice on what they think is best for them health wise, we all may not agree but that’s life.
Other employees have been out with covid and are unvaccinated in the past month and they all got there sick time pay, so not sure what switched.
I called the “big boss” and I threatened to sue as this is clearly against policy and clearly my boss just publicly shaming me for not being vaccinated. Big boss drove 2 hours to our building and walked into my bosses office. He shut the door, closed the blinds and came out with a handwritten check.
My boss the rest of the day constantly stared me down with a look that could kill, I came back from lunch to a outrageous stack of work. That was his way of getting even. I put my resignation on his desk at the end of the shift and I won’t be returning.
Im not even sure if I have a legal case as my money was given to me, but never in my life have I seen such a witch hunt go on because I was sick and out of work FOLLOWING POLICY. He interjected his personal views on something completely irrelevant. I’m disappointed and furious. The good news is I have plenty of backup spots at other facilities and can move over no problem.
Fuck that job.
