So anytime I apply for a job on Indeed and it asks for a skills test, I just refuse to do them. I realized 30 minutes here and there was adding up to a ton of extra time every week. I'm done supplying unpaid labor and time. I think the application and interviewing process takes more than enough of that as it is.
Normally I don't get called when I don't complete those, but this time I did. I had an interview and she referred me to the second round on the spot. Funny enough, the company seems pretty good and the glassdoor reviews are also pretty decent.
I just got an alert from Indeed telling me “last chance to complete the skills test.” I'm not sure if this is an auto reminder or if it's pushed from the company.
I have my second interview this afternoon. My question is, if this is brought up and they ask me why I haven't completed it, how could I best answer that?
I want to be honest and tell them why I haven't and won't be. I also want to tell them that I find these skills tests to be incredibly pointless and demeaning. I am currently employed as a Program Manager and have been for 3 years, clearly, I am competent enough to not only get my current position but also keep it.
Is being honest a bad idea? I kind of don't care at this point, but I'm curious to see what others think.
