So, I have worked a popular bar/hotel for about 4 years now. I am a bartender and a full time student at university. Every semester for the past four years I have updated my availability to work with my school schedule. Every semester it has been approved, except this one.
The issue is not the actual days I have class but I ask for Saturdays and Sundays off so I can have 2 full days off of school and work. So usually I will work 3 days a week Monday-Friday.
They are now saying they need me to be able to work Saturdays bc of us getting to the busy seasons.
I agreed hoping there would be a rotation and I would only have to work 1-2 Saturdays a month.
Now my managers know I would like to have Saturdays off, however they have scheduled me every single Saturday since my update in availability about 5 weeks ago. I even asked earlier this week to please not schedule me on Saturdays unless they don’t have the coverage (On Saturdays there is around 4 bartenders who have the night off due to only 4 bartenders needing to work on that specific day). I was then scheduled only Friday and Saturday this week.
What can I do? There isn’t a reason why I should continually be scheduled on Saturday. Others can work this shift, I would be happy to work the less describable Monday-Friday shifts.
What I can do ?
