I don't know if it fits this sub, but I will tell this story here.
Context: I'm from Brazil and here it's normal to go to college and have a job at the same time.
8-ish years ago I was just out of high school, of course, no experience, but I was an IT nerd, already fluent(more like intermediate, but that's good enough over here) in English back then, thus I had the basic skills that the company required. It was in fact, a school that teaches extra-curricular and language courses for teens and young kids. Anyway, wage was never going to be the best.
Fast forward to this year, I'm employed in a job that pays a livable wage, is part time AND home office, so I finally got a job that doesn't make me feel miserable and change my entire schedule to accommodate it… and I got a call from that first company. It was an offer for part time IT tutor. I'd basically be teaching kids how to code, I, despite not working directly with IT, am still an enthusiast.
I have really considered it as a good opportunity at first, but hold up… I'd not have free time anymore, I'd need to take public transport (gas is expensive and the place is a mess to go by car anyway). I just started laughing hysterically in the call. There's no way I'd be taking that at this time of my life! I already have a job were I get paid enough to not be counting pennies to try to pay my bills or get groceries. Sure I'd have double the income, everyone that I know would take this offer, but no…
…It is never worthy to sacrifice my youth in the sake of money.
