Remembering the Great Railroad Strike of 1877

“Unions and management can work together for the benefit of everyone.” -Joe Biden In fact, if workers have any leverage whatsoever today, it is only because of the strikes that took place before unions were co-opted to play a role in helping to manage capitalism. While Biden continues to use his position in the government to stave off a railroad strike, we remember the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and all the other struggles that forced capitalists to concern themselves with the suffering of ordinary workers. As life gets more and more expensive and difficult, we can't coast on victories from a century and a half ago. “The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of working people, and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things…
