Reprimanded for sighing

This was back in 2019. Our company was in the middle of an acquisition of a new company. I work in IT. My specialty is printers. We needed to migrate a dozen locations from their network to our network. Move existing printers, add new printers. This has been a rough Conversion Project. I started off with a migraine the day before flying out. I've been working on an extreme lack of sleep. My left shoulder is injured from over extending it playing Beat Saber. None of the rest of the IT crew knows printers like I do. I spend most of my day in a conference room on a laptop getting the printers configured. We are in Salt Lake City and have been told we have to follow the local dress code at all times instead of the main corporate dress code. Polo shirts are not allowed except on Fridays.…

Polo shirts are not allowed except on Fridays. Jeans are not allowed, except on Fridays. Friday is Casual Friday, but T-Shirts are never allowed unless they have the local company name.

We've worked through the weekend. This is something like Monday or Tuesday after they have officially migrated over to our system. Work still needs to be done, and I am busy. It's past 5pm. I'm tired. Something cropped up meaning I'm going to have to reconfigure all the printers AGAIN. Project Manager is in the room with me. One of the local company VIPs walks in the room and starts taking to the project manager. I'm reading a Skype Conversation regarding how things are going. I sigh, then get back to work. VIP leaves the room.

Project Manager gets my attention and then immediately starts belittling me and dressing me down. How dare I sigh in front of the VIP. That was incredibly disrespectful. You had better not do that again. She isn't my boss, I don't work for her. She isn't even part of my department. But she decides to rip into me for unprofessional behavior.

I just sit there blankly staring at her. I am in disbelief that I am being scolded like a child. I mumble a non apology “sorry if I offended you” sort of response. I pretend to work for another 15 minutes, then declare I'm done and head back to the hotel because I'm forking done with the day.
