We need to change the term for this. I’ve been thinking of the term “temporary unavailability,” as the term should reflect that is in non-negotiable. I find it ridiculous that a you can tell your boss “I’m requesting off for this period of time for a vacation I have already paid for” months in advance, and because it’s a REQUEST, they can just deny it and threaten to fire you for not showing up.
