Resignation at the best possible time

Worked through the ranks in a healthcare job pretty quickly. Most supervisors/managers previously above me were very pragmatic pro-worker folks, as am I. Since my last promotion (2 years ago) I’ve had a new boss, at the director level. They’ve never been in the role we supervise and manage (I’m a paramedic, so EMS, she’s only ever been a nurse. Tried to obtain her pre-hospital certification multiple times and failed, somehow still retained her position.) Back in November, she threatened to fire me after the first callout I’ve ever had because I was having a mental crisis (glad to know mental health is much less important than physical health). I went to HR and got a lawyer, couldn’t do anything litigiously at the time and HR did nothing. Back in November, she threatened to fire me after the first callout I’ve ever had because I was having a mental crisis (glad to know mental health is much less important than physical health). I went to HR and got a lawyer, couldn’t do anything litigiously at the time and HR did nothing. Fast forward 3 weeks and she yells at me in a public setting to “shut my fucking mouth” and to “shut the fuck up”. Again, went to HR and a lawyer. I’ve also developed this odd daily morning vomiting, sometimes repetitively through the day.

HR wrote her up and called it a day. Forward to today, i recently had a surgical procedure that went VERY awry. Internal bleeding, sepsis, etc. 0/10 would not recommend. While I was in terrible pain, truly excruciating, I did not vomit once. I felt at peace, having a genuine break. I have 2 other jobs (not out of necessity, but more as hobbies such as working at a fly fishing shop and remaining as a clinician in the field). I decided to put in my resignation during this break realizing it was doing serious damage to my mental and physical health.

Sent it in today as she announces restructuring to “reassign redundant positions.” I’ve heard this phrase before and know what it means.

Best part? I called her before I sent it in and she bitch buttoned me (ignored my call) so I just sent it in anyways. Unfortunately you cannot deal with irrational folks in a rational matter.

Not a throwaway account because I have zero remorse for my decision to actually take care of myself and my family for once. Sláinte!
