Resignation letter?

So the girl I have been seeing works for a preschool associated with a University that rhymes with Rolumbia. She just graduated and is finishing her job there but they are having her sign a letter of resignation form (along with the other teachers) as a way to leave the job. Is this legal? Seems fishy to me.
