Ever since my first shitty job in a retail superstore I have been pondering how cooperations drill employees in their history and brand story. This vain attempt to peddle their goods using employees as marketing tools is troubling. And the resentment when an employee recommends or proffers a competing product or store is palpable and shows a weakness we need to make or a noise about in the media.
If our employers from the new world of global capitalism really demand our loyalty and devotion to the brand ideology then we must demand their profits not only benefit our wage but our society.
There should be mass petitions from employees of Starbucks, Google, Facebook, virgin, IKEA, Tesco, Asda ect. That the board, CEOs and owners do not take their profits offshore. We should be demanding more than just a pay rise , we should be demanding ethical investment of the profits.
We will give you our labour on exchange for fair wage and we will promote your brand when our teachers, police, fire and doctors are not stretched. Every tax bill dodged reduces the income to these vital services which in turn has a negative effect on us all. Cooperations are behaving like leaches, sucking the blood out of societies.
We must demand better!
